NAC-2 Plex features a synergistic blend of niacinamide and N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in a formula designed to support the health of multiple tissues and systems. These nutrients work together to interrupt a cascade of events involving reactive oxygen species, cytokines, and poly (ADP-ribose) synthetase (PARS). Activation inversly associated with tissue and organ integrity.
Niacinamide disrupts this cycle by inhibiting PARS, while NAC works by preventing the free radicals that drive the cycle forward. Poliquin Notes
I'm a big fan of getting more bang for your buck. One of the reasons I like to pair agonists and antagonists in a workout is to make better use of my time and my clients' time. I also like squats and deadlifts because you get more value from your training time by using more motor units. I use the same philosophy with many of my supplements. When choosing supplements, I prefer nutrients that affect many conditions or organ systems rather than those that have a limited effect. Fish oil is a great example of this - omega 3s have a positive impact on just about every aspect of physiology so they are a staple in my supplement regimen. My newest staple is a combination of niacinamide and N-acetyl-cysteine in a product called NAC 2-Plex.
These two nutrients have a mountain of research validating their use with a multitude of functions and support of various organ systems. In addition, NAC 2-Plex can be used in several Biosignature protocols and my new Detox Program. Also, a study in 1999 by Kroeger et al showed that these two nutrients had a synergistic effect when they are combined true bang for your buck value. Many products claim synergy, but true synergy is rare and must be proven in studies; it cannot be assumed.
So how can NAC 2-Plex help you? How about one supplement that helps convert carbohydrates into energy as well as helps in the breakdown of fat and cholesterol? In fact, Murray and Pizzorno in the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, list niacin as one of the best agents for lowering total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL as well as raising HDL. Since niacin is a B vitamin it must be supplied in the diet or it can easily become a deficiency. The nutrient complex of niacinamide and NAC also helps the body rid itself of toxins as well as mercury. Two of my favorite uses for this supplement are its ability to improve cellular ATP levels and to regulate blood sugar. N-Acetyl-cysteine has even been shown to reduce the damage done by heart attacks and can also help with chronic bronchitis. In addition, there have been many studies that show that together, niacinamide and NAC are extremely helpful with arthritic joints, joint pain, and joint mobility.
Just look at a short list of some of the areas where research has shown great promise with either one or both of these nutrients:
- May improve symptoms associated with Sjgren's syndrome
- Help enhance cognitive functioning in some individuals with Alzheimer's disease
- Prevent development of cataracts and macular degeneration
- Slow down motor impairment in ALS.
- Help treat hepatitis C when combined with standard medical treatment
- Help increase fertility along with fertility drugs in people with polycystic ovary disease
- Help improve outcome in children with advanced cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, a type of leukemia

Rarely can one formula have such broad reaching applications. Those are very specific areas of research, but for the average consumer, NAC 2-Plex should be used to support cardiovascular health, blood sugar regulation, joint health, and detoxification. Take it for just one of those concerns and you'll get the benefits with the rest of your system as well. This formula should become a staple in your regimen as it has in mine.
